Free to Air

Technology has increased rapidly in the market of mobile entertainment technology. Now you can even watch hundreds of channels while you are traveling in your car, truck or boat. Mobile satellite antennas can be mounted on the roof of your vehicle and there are even different satellite units that are built specially for trucks and boats. Many of these units are quite easy to install and come with everything you need to mount the antenna and wire it up.

One crucial difference between antennas is whether they allow you to pick up the satellite signal while you are moving or if you can only get reception when you are parked. Long-haul truck drivers will no doubt appreciate the benefits of an antenna unit that only gets reception when the vehicle is parked since this would likely be the only time they would have the television on. Motion tracking technologies are involved in the antennas that allow you satellite reception while the vehicle is traveling. Semi-truck team drivers or drivers who take their families on the road will appreciate the ability to watch satellite television whenever they want.

If you are merely going to be away from home and want to take all your favorite television stations with you, consider investing in a portable satellite. Most of these units are lightweight and ultra-portable. They are usually self-contained requiring no assembly of the actual antenna unit. A nice piece of technology included in most of these units is dynamic dish leveling which allows the antenna to be placed on unlevel surfaces without losing any reception quality. The remotes for these antennas also allow you to wirelessly adjust the height and rotation of the unit to improve the reception. This unit is great for when you hit the open road for a weekend away, or go tailgating at the big game or decide to host the neighborhood backyard barbecue.

Setting up the weather resistant unit is as simple as setting it on the ground and running the coaxial cable from the antenna to the satellite receiver. This does require that the unit be connected to a single tuner satellite receiver. Another thing to keep in mind with these mobile units is that they do not necessarily allow the user access to HD programming; it often depends on the service provider. While most units are capable of receiving signals from multiple satellites they can only lock onto one satellite at a time. In order to receive all the channels offered by a service provider the user has to manually lock onto the satellite with the channels they want to view.

There is no need to be limited by location in receiving your favorite television programming. The ability to receive all the stations you love can be taken anywhere thanks to portable satellite antenna technology. Now any trip, whether it is taken in the car with the family, on the road with a team of truckers or enjoying the adventures of the open sea, can be enjoyed with all the comforts of home including satellite television.
