Phased Rollouts

HR Systems

The ‘Big Bang’ philosophy towards IT rollouts, widely favoured in the 1990s, has gone out of fashion in recent years, and most organisations today prefer to take a phased approach. For one thing, this allows them to pilot new systems among a small group of users and iron out any technical problems early on, particularly in terms of usability. Just as important, it lets them prioritise, focusing on tackling key pain points within the organisation or on capability that will deliver the most tangible short-term benefits.

Prioritising investment on the basis of direct cost-savings isn’t always easy, especially as people management processes cross multiple company departments and it’s hard to establish how much resource is being consumed in non-HR functions. But in-house research often helps.

Options include:

- Surveys of the HR, payroll, and training functions, as well as line managers, to find the biggest pain points in their people management processes.

- Identifying the most unpopular process bottlenecks doesn’t just help establish a business case for investment – it will also help generate buy-in from executives, which is a big factor in the success of any IT rollout

- Resource analysis. Which transactional activities take up most time in the HR functuring a “normal” week? Which are the easiest to automate?

- Support query analysis. What are the top ten most common enquiries, and which of them take up most of HR’s time? How many of them could be solved simply by posting “Frequently Asked Questions” on the intranet.

Spring Hill, The City in the Hills

Basking in lush country sides and peaceful country living, Spring Hill has a family-oriented atmosphere and is quickly becoming known as a business friendly community.

The community was named for a local coldwater spring and is located thirty miles south of Nashville; Spring Hill is in Maury and Williamson counties and is known as “The City in the Hills”. Its closeness to major cities like Nashville, make living in Spring Hills a desirable place to live.

Spring Hill’s rich history is probably best known for the Battle of Spring Hill in 1864, a prelude to the Battle of Franklin. Today, Civil War enthusiasts have reenactments of this famous battle. Spring Hill’s first settlers arrived in 1808 and Albert Russell was the first person to clear land to build a home and the city was established in 1809. Take a tour through Rippavilla Plantation, originally home to Nathaniel Frances Cheairs IV in the early 1800’s, now a perfectly preserved museum open to the public. While the City of Spring Hill has changed dramatically since the first settlement in 1808, beautiful homes still stand amid the new development and give us a glimpse into the City’s rich and historic past.

If you want to see Spring Hill and other surrounding historic cities, the Tennessee Antebellum Tour offers self-guided driving tours. The tour covers 90 miles and four counties and guides visitors to many antebellum plantations, homes and other historic sites, including President Andrew Jackson’s home, The Hermitage

The leading industries in Spring Hill are Manufacturing, Educational, Health and Social Services. The city was recently named the “Most Business Friendly City” by the State of Tennessee. The city is also home to Dawson McAllister Ministries, which broadcasts Dawson McAllister Live weekly on local radio stations. Spring Hill is a major center for the manufacturer of General Motors automobiles as well.

There are many reasons why people call Spring Hill home. Median home prices are in the low $200,000 and the city offers many diverse home options like multi-family homes, condominiums, townhomes and affordable apartments. It’s thriving ecomony and location near Nashville make Spring Hill a contender for one of the best cities to live in. It’s excellent education system is another big draw to the city for yourself and your family. Colleges in the area offering higher education include Belmont University and Nashville State Community College.

Living in Spring Hill allows you to enjoy a suburban lifestyle and have access to world-class entertainment opportunities. Nashville is a short distance away and has endless choices. Landmarks like the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, The Ryman Auditorim and access to incredible dining and music venues is only a short distance away.

Spring Hill continues to maintain its small town charm for its residents while going through incredible growth as a city and business center.

The county, along with all other counties in the US will be celebrating Veterans Day this month and there are many ways that the city will show its appreciation.

It was President Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1954 who proclaimed Veterans Day observation. It was originally known as Armistice Day and became a legal federal holiday in 1938. Due to President Eisenhower, it became known as Veterans Day so that, “a grateful Nation might pay appropriate homage to the Veterans of all its wars who have contributed so much to the preservation of this Nation”.

Orange County cities will be paying their respects and showing appreciation. Fullerton is conducting its 22nd annual Veterans Day Parade and Ceremony, including a flyover by Air Combat USA, which simulates aerial combat using vintage fighter planes. The parade will begin at 11:11 a.m. in remembrance of the timing of the treaty that ended World War 1. In honor of our Veterans, several attractions in Orange County have extended discounts. Some restaurant chains conducting food giveaways to veterans and active duty personnel are Applebee’s, Outback Steakhouse and Krispy Kreme Doughnuts. Disney’s Armed Forces Salute is giving eligible U.S. military personnel, National Guard and Coast Guard and any Veterans or retirees admission into the Disneyland Resorts. San Diego Salutes Its Veterans

San Diego is a city full of rich history from its early beginnings. Those thinking of visiting or moving to San Diego will appreciate the cities commitment to honor our Veterans and our Active Duty. The city, along with all other cities in the US will be celebrating Veterans Day this month and there are many ways that the city will show its appreciation.

One annual event that has been taking place for over twenty years is the San Diego County Veterans Day Parade. It began as a local city parade and grew to larger crowds from neighboring communities. Although there are many other events throughout the community, the Veterans Day Parade is the main event. The parade starts at Cedar Street and Pacific Highway and will begin at 11 am in remembrance of the timing of the treaty that ended World War 1. The theme of this year’s parade is “Welcome Home

Also, Lowe’s and Home Depot Lowe’s typically have offered a 10% to veterans and active duty the last several years.

There are other events that salute Veterans Day throughout San Diego County. The Veterans Museum and Memorial Center in Balboa Park has their Veteran of the Year Luncheon. This year, the Museum will also be hosting the welcome reception for a Vietnamese-American Army Veteran, Mr. Sinh Nguyen, who has walked across the US in a solo mission called, “Shore to Shore: Honoring Those Who Serve”. Legoland is doing their part to honor the Veterans and has built a mini-version of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. The display is in the park’s Washington D.C. area and is ten feet long and made up of more than 2,000 Lego bricks.

It’s important to San Diego to show it’s appreciation to the men and women who have served and are serving our country. Veterans Day is a day to come and show respect and support for those who have fought, died, been captured or are missing in action in the cause of peace and freedom.

Scottsdale Arizona a Golfers Paradise

If living on the golf course overlooking the Sonoran Desert is your idea of paradise, then look no further than Scottsdale Arizona. It’s considered a year-round golfer’s paradise due to its mild climate and warm sunny days that are peak playing conditions for golf lovers.

Hit the links at one of the more than 50 golf courses within Scottsdale’s city limits. From public to private, there is something for everyone. Scottsdale is home to some of the best golf resorts in the world. The Boulders Resort & Golden Door Spa features two championship Jay Morrish golf courses. The courses stretch across the Sonoran Desert and with little impact on its natural beauty.

Another gem of the desert is The Phoenician located in Scottsdale and considered one of America’s most luxurious resorts. Nestled over 250 acres at the base of the Camelback Mountains, it’s a golfers dream. The Phoenician’s three 9-hole courses provide distinctive challenges, from the well-bunkered flat holes of the Desert course to the winding uphill greens of the Canyon and the water hazards of the Oasis

The Fairmont is another premier golf destination. It has two championship golf courses and offers you the opportunity to play like a pro. It’s also home to the Annual PGA Tour FBR Open. This event is held every February and is known as the “Greatest Show on Grass” welcomes more than 500,000 spectators annually.

Another unforgettable property is the Sanctuary Golf Course at Westworld. It is the first golf course in Arizona to attain the coveted Audubon Signature Status. Designed by Randy Heckenkemper, the golf course was built along the western slope of Scottsdale’s McDowell Mountains.

Not to be outdone, Desert Mountain’s golf features some of the finest golf courses in Scottsdale. Since opening in 1986, no other club has come to define championship desert golf more than Desert Mountain. When the Champions Tour Event “The Tradition” was held here, the Senior PGA Tour ranked the Cochise course as the “Best Maintained Golf Course” on the tour. The Renegade and Cochise courses consistently rank in the national golf magazines’ top 100 lists.

Voted as one of America’s most livable cities, it’s no wonder people are relocating to Scottsdale. Although a highly affluent city, homes are still affordable. Golfing communities such as The Boulders offers elegant homes and villas and offers residents a unique lifestyle. DC Ranch is a master-planned community that isn’t your typical cookie-cutter neighborhood. Ample space sits between you and your neighbor and a network of paths connects you to the community’s amenities. Grayhawk is a community built with the environment in mind. Developers left 40% of the property in its natural state. Grayhawk has two distinct neighborhoods: The Park and The Retreat. Each offers a blend of resort-style living and family-oriented neighborhoods. Grayhawk Golf Club is home to two world-class golf courses, Talon and Raptor.

Matched by the ideal climate and challenging courses, Scottsdale’s reputation remains as one of the world’s best places to live and golf.

Finding Time to Save

Comfort your Aches and Pains

There is an old Chinese proverb which states that the best time to plant a tree is twenty years ago, but the second best time is today. Small business owners could learn something from saying. The best time to look for lower cost supplies is the day you open your business, but the second best time is today. You can’t get back the extra money you may have spent on higher priced supplies over the years. All you can do is stop wasting that money going forward.

If you are like most small business owners, you are strapped not only for money, but for time as well. You may be spending so much time concentrating on your core business that you just keep buying from your existing suppliers without every checking to make sure you are getting the best price available. That’s understandable. After all you probably didn’t go into business to look through catalogs and search the internet. On the other hand, you probably did go into business to make money.

If making money was a t least a part of your goal when you started your business, then you owe it to yourself to make sure you are giving away a part of your profits unnecessarily. That means making sure that you are overpaying for your basic business supplies.

Take a few minutes each day and pick one or two of the things you use around your business and see if you can find a lower price. One day look at something like cash register receipt paper, then look at printer inks. In fact, if your POS business machines use ink you might want to look at new thermal printers. POS machines with thermal printers are widely available and they are widely available for a reason. Thermal printers don’t require ink at all. The printer itself is cheaper and more reliable and the savings on ink cartridges can really add up. Thermal printers require a special thermal paper that can be purchased from online suppliers very cheaply in special thermal paper rolls designed specifically for these POS business printers.

That’s just one example. Each day look for another item that your business uses and try to find it for less. If your business is a restaurant, look at the cost of things like paper napkins, drinking straws, dishwasher detergent, and other consumable supplies.

While each item may not seem like a significant amount of money, when you put them all together and add them up over the course of the year, they add up. Remember, every penny you save on your business supplies translates directly to your bottom line as profit.

The Importance of SEO for Your Business Website

The Importance of SEO for Your Business Website

SEO, or Search Engine Optimization, is critical to ensuring that your business website gets in front of the eyes of your potential customers. You may have the best widget out there, but if no one can find your website when they are looking for widgets, you won’t make any sales.

Search engines like Google and Yahoo send out “spiders” to search for content across the World Wide Web to add to their collection. The search engines decide the quality and relevance of the content by the use of keywords, or words that the site uses repeatedly. Too many of the same word repeated over and over again, and the search engine may decide that the content is spam and downgrade its importance in a search. Too few keywords and the search engine may decide that the site is not relevant to that keyword search.

Search engines have become more sophisticated in the last few years about how they rate content. Keywords alone are no longer the sole determinant of a site’s “value”. Keyword phrases and related words and phrases are reviewed for a more sophisticated assessment of what the site is all about.

So what does this mean for your website? In order for your site to stand out and be found, it is important that you practice good SEO when designing and writing for your website.

Start by thinking about what words or phrases your potential customers would use to search for your product or service. For example, if you sell MP3 players, likely keywords and phrases that your customers would use include music storage, downloads, portable music, etc. By ensuring these phrases are woven into the text on your website, you will have a better chance of being ranked higher in search engine searches.

If your product or service must be purchased locally, make sure that your city, state and zip code are repeated often on your site. Customers may search for local stores using the product and the zip code or the city. For example, people might type in “restaurants Boise” into the search to get a list of restaurants in the local area.

Another important way to have your site ranked higher in search engine searches is to have quality inbound links. This means that other websites have links to your website. This strategy will only make a difference if the sites that link to yours are ranked higher than yours by the search engine. The philosophy is that if quality sites are linking to your site, yours must also be a quality site. If you are involved in an industry organization, find out if they can provide a link on their site to yours. You can also exchange links with other sites, but be sure that the links and sites are relevant to yours. If your site contains too many seemingly random links, the search engine may determine that your site must be spam and it can “punish” your site by dropping its ranking.

Taking the time to ensure that your website uses solid SEO practices will provide long term benefits as it will be more discoverable to those who may buy your product or service.

Affordable Commercial Scales

A digital retail scale doesn’t have to be a budget-buster anymore. Deli, Jewelry, Tobacco, Coffee, Candy, Produce – whatever your business – reasonably priced, high quality Retail Scales and Grocery Scales are available with features designed for your business. And the increased accuracy and efficiency that comes along with these scales more than pays for the investment. If you’re just starting your business or haven’t upgraded your scale in a while, you will benefit from checking out all the options available.

Digital POS Scales connect directly to cash registers or computers. Models designed specifically for food include waterproof membrane keyboards and stainless steel trays. Smaller models are ideal for environments like cafeterias, convenience stores, and candy shops where counter space is limited.

Consider a Price Computing Scale to add efficiency to your operation immediately. Just about any type of business that sells its goods by the pound will benefit from these retail scales. Simply weigh the item, tell the scale what you are weighing, and it calculates the amount to charge the customer. Accuracy and time per transaction are greatly improved. Just pre-program information about your food items into memory using the buttons right on the scale.

Price Computing Scales vary in cost based on weight and size capacity, accuracy, and number of PLU memory locations. You can choose models with display screens on both sides for the operator and for the customer. Other models have the display screens built into the keypad for the operator only. Some scales have built in printers for pricing and bar code labels. Higher end models interface with your computer, or checkout systems and are OPOS compatible. Weekly sales, limited time only products, daily specials – there is no easier way to maintain your pricing, labeling, and country of origin standards.

Folks doing business at Farmers’ Markets should consider utilizing Digital Price Computing Scales to measure out their produce. Pre-measuring and bagging takes time and the plastic containers can be costly. Weighing onsite and charging by the pound is the way many are headed. Digital scales provide many advantages. They are more accurate and compact than the old mechanical hanging scales. And they calculate the amount to charge your customer, greatly reducing the chance for error on a busy day. Look for a model with an internal rechargeable battery for extra convenience.

For those in the jewelry business, you will need a Jewelry Scale with the appropriate weighing capacity and readability for your specialty. Many models weigh in different modes including grams, pennyweight, carats and troy ounces. If you are a professional or if you’re in the pawn business, may need a Legal for Trade scale. If you make your own jewelry to sell, you’ll probably be able to get by with a less expensive non-certified model. If you travel to shows and expos, you might benefit from a portable scale. You can find pocket scales about the size of your hand.

Digital grocery and retail scales offer amazing accuracy and convenience for the price.

Is Playing Online Bingo for Cash Legal in the US or Not?

Online Bingo

Playing online bingo for cash is enjoying increasing popularity worldwide, and the US is no exception. There is much controversy surrounding the legality of playing online bingo for cash by US players. This article will attempt to resolve some of the questions surrounding this issue for US online players.

Legislation passed by the US government has forced many online bingo websites to block players from the US from playing on their site. Even so, there are still many online bingo sites offering cash prizes that do allow players from the USA to play on their websites. If you are interested in playing online bingo for cash, simply go online and search for bingo websites that allow Americans to play for cash. Many of these sites offer large signup bonuses and special promotions for new clients with ISP addresses registered in the USA.

The short answer to the legality of US players playing online bingo for cash is that playing is legal, but receiving cash prizes is not. In 2006, the UIGEA law was passed and ever since, the question of US player’s ability to play online bingo has been an issue. This law was intended to stop US players from gambling (and yes, playing online bingo for cash is considered gambling) online. It also targets banks and aims at their capacity to block payments to and from online bingo sites. In other words, the law places the burden on the banks to stop deposits from coming into accounts from offshore gambling websites. It also assigns responsibility to banks to prevent a player from making a credit card payment to an offshore gambling site. The gist of the matter is simply this; a player from the US can play online bingo for cash legally. But the player’s bank should block any financial transactions from being carried out between the player and the website. For all intents and purposes, the player will be effectively blocked from playing at all since most pay to play sites require the player to open an account with a financial deposit before being allowed to play.

So far US law appears to focus on financial institutions and to some extent, ISPs. US law makers have chosen to not challenge any online bingo sites directly since most of these sites are operated from outside US jurisdiction. According to various bingo website operators, there have been no criminal repercussions thus far for any American players.

The Internet has changed the world completely. There are many areas of disagreement among various countries as to laws that should (or should not) govern the use of the Internet. The web really is worldwide and people from all over the world generally have access to the same information or games. The advent of the Internet precipitated the development of a whole new field of law, that of Internet law.

The US has attempted to protect online bingo players from unscrupulous offshore websites by creating laws. Many legislators feel that players should be allowed to play for money, as long as the US IRS is informed of their earnings. Other legislators feel more legislation is needed to ban US players form any form of online gambling. This debate will rage for years to come.
